| As
more information regarding etiologies of dysphagia are obtained, true psychogenic
dysphagia is becoming less and less a reality. For example, the entity known as
"globus hystericus", when studied more closely can range in etiology
from site-specific posterior laryngeal swelling due to acid reflux injury (104)
to esophageal motility disorders (52, 53) (104, 121). Therefore, the search for
an organic etiology of dysphagia should be exhausted before ascribing a diagnosis
of psychogenic dysphagia.
